Vision & Mission

The Frechette Family Foundation envisions a world where all individuals, children and their communities thrive.

We partner with innovative organizations and leaders whose work advances the opportunity for all, particularly children and families, to grow, thrive and realize their own idea of well-being.

Our Values

Compassion

We connect with others through kindness, empathy, heartfelt interest and an open mind.

Collaboration

We are committed to relationship building and partnership; to shared vision, deep learning and honest conversations. We seek to leverage and combine our assets and resources with grantees and other stakeholders to increase impact.

Humility

We learn alongside our partners and peers. We are committed to remaining grounded in our mutual humanity, always remembering to ask, “What do you need?”

Joy

Honoring the joyful hearts of our Founders, we are committed to continuing the tradition of joy and fun they brought to philanthropy.

Transparency

We are open and honest while keeping things simple. Maintaining clear and direct communications with our partners allows us to share important information and learn from each other.

Trust

We have an unwavering belief that we can count on ourselves and our partners to respond with truth, candor and strength of conviction.

Foundation History

Founded in 1997, the Frechette Family Foundation fully embraces the Founders’ philanthropic spirit, values, and passion, providing a vehicle for future generations to work together to make a difference in the world. Most of our grants have supported early care, education, and youth development in the communities where families live: Chicago, Illinois; Eagle River Valley, Colorado; and Washington, DC. The Founders envisioned the Foundation to be a vehicle for collective family giving and philanthropic learning. Since its inception, the Foundation has granted more than $60M to grantee partners.

Our Founders:
Pat and Pete Frechette

Pat and Pete Frechette were raised in Janesville, Wisconsin and became high school sweethearts in 1956. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, they married in 1961 and set off on a life journey of hard work, devotion to family, and tremendous generosity. Throughout the early years of their marriage and parenthood they had modest means, yet they started a tradition of giving back.

In their late fifties, Pete and his executive team took The Patterson Dental Company (currently Patterson Companies) public, and their assets increased substantially. Pat and Pete were humbled by their good fortune and grateful to be able to support efforts that contributed to the well-being of others on a whole new scale. Pat and Pete established the Frechette Family Foundation in March 1997. Together with their twin daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, they spent many fulfilling and happy years supporting organizations in the areas of education and health.

Pat passed away in September 2016 and, less than five months later, Pete passed away in February 2017. The bulk of their estate went into the foundation. Pat and Pete’s lives were shaped by their passion for giving and how it benefits communities. They joyfully shared this passion with their children and grandchildren; it is an honor for their descendants to carry on their legacy.
